What is the Staatsloterij?
The Staatsloterij is the largest lottery company in the Netherlands and is owned by a foundation, de Stichting Exploitatie Nederlandse Staatsloterij (SENS). The foundation was founded in 1992, but a similar lottery predates the Staatsloterij by many years. In 1726 the first Dutch Lottery was founded to supplement the treasury. In a lottery a consumer buys a ticket. With this ticket prizes of up to several million euros can be won. The odds of winning a large prize are slim, almost next to nothing. Even worse, most people end up losing money by playing in a lottery.
Staatsloterij winners
The Staatsloterij claims to have the largest prize pool of all Dutch lotteries. Players are in the running to win the Jackpot or any other prizes offered by the Staatsloterij.
How much does joining the Staatsloterij cost?
The lottery tickets, or Staatsloten in Dutch, vary in price. The tenth of every month a draw takes place and the Staatsloterij organises extra draws four times a year. A whole ticket costs €15 per draw. You can decide to buy one fifth of a ticket, but if you end up winning, this also means you’ll receive one fifth of the prize. Tickets for the New Years Eve draw cost €30 for a whole ticket and €15 for a half one. Next to these options, there’s also the possibility to play with an XL ticket. Buying an XL ticket means you’re playing for the regular prizes as well as the special XL prize pool. XL tickets cost €2,50 extra per whole ticket and €0.50 per one fifth of a ticket.
Staatsloterij subscription
It’s possible to subscribe to the Staatsloterij. This means you automatically join the 16 draws that take place every month.
