What is bunq?

In 2015, bunq joined the Dutch bank world. The bunq app allows you to open a free bank account, and not just the one. You can open up to 10 free accounts. They will all be listed for you in the app. However, without the app you can’t use bunq.

How does bunq work?

By using bunq it’s free to transfer and receive money. The bank account is free, but a bunq bank card costs €9 for 4 years. You can opt for a bunq mastercard or maestro card. There are further costs too. A pin transaction costs €0,04 and withdrawing money costs €0,80. These costs apply in every European country and outside the EU these costs are higher. A pin transaction outside the EU is €0,04 + 1,2% exchange rate. Withdrawing money is a lot more expensive too: €2,25 + 1,2% exchange rate. Apart from the online bank environment, bunq does not offer any other services, such as a savings account, the possibility to have a negative balance, a credit card or a loan.
